Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Allah Almighty does not accept charity from unlawful wealth, nor prayer without ablution."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this report; its chain states that Ibn Sinan narrated it from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), and Yazid bin Abi Habib narrated it from him. I have not seen anyone mention him (i.e. Ibn Sinan).

Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abbad bin Ahmad al-Arzami, who is matruk (abandoned).

Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Kathir bin Zayd al-Aslami, whom Ibn Hibban, and Yahya bin Ma'in according to one report, declared thiqah (trustworthy). Abu Zur'ah said: He is saduq (truthful), but there is some weakness in him. Al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared him da'if (weak), and Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Ammar al-Mawsili said: He is thiqah (trustworthy).

Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its narrators have been declared trustworthy, except that I do not know al-Tabarani's teacher, Thabit bin Nu'aym al-Hawji.

Isa bin Sabrah narrates from his father, from his grandfather, who said: "One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit. There is no prayer without ablution; there is no ablution for the one who does not mention the name of Allah before it; the one who does not believe in me does not believe in Allah Almighty; and the one who does not recognise the right of the Ansar does not believe in me."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. As for Isa bin Sabrah, his father, and Isa bin Yazid, I have not seen anyone mention any of them.

Rabah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Huwaytib narrates that his grandmother said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The one who does not believe in me does not believe in Allah Almighty; the one who does not love the Ansar does not believe in me; there is no prayer for the one who has no ablution; and there is no ablution for the one who does not mention the name of Allah before it."
Ahmad recorded it from this same woman, in which she says: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say it; and he also
recorded it from this woman, from her father. And Allah knows best. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Thifal, about whom al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: There is a question about his narrations (fi hadithihi nazar). The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

It is reported about Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Imarah (may Allah be pleased with him), who belonged to Banu Sa'd bin Bakr and had the honour of being a Companion, that a man said to him: Advise me concerning myself, may Allah Almighty have mercy on you! He said: When you stand for prayer, perform ablution thoroughly, for there is no prayer for the one who has no ablution, and there is no faith for the one who has no prayer. After this he narrated the complete hadith, which will come in the chapter on admonitions.
