It is reported about Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Imarah (may Allah be pleased with him), who belonged to Banu Sa'd bin Bakr and had the honour of being a Companion, that a man said to him: Advise me concerning myself, may Allah Almighty have mercy on you! He said: When you stand for prayer, perform ablution thoroughly, for there is no prayer for the one who has no ablution, and there is no faith for the one who has no prayer. After this he narrated the complete hadith, which will come in the chapter on admonitions.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Ubaydullah bin Sa'd, who narrated from his father
this report, and I have not seen anyone mention either of them.
