Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever acquires knowledge in order to boast with it before the scholars, or to argue with the ignorant by means of it, and to draw people's attention towards himself, that person will go to Hell."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and al-Bazzar also recorded it. Its chain contains Sulayman bin Ziyad al-Wasiti. Tabarani and al-Bazzar say: Sulayman is alone in narrating it. Tabarani added the words: He has not been corroborated in it. The author of "al-Mizan" says: I do not know who he is.
