Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 866

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever acquires knowledge in order to boast with it before the scholars in gatherings, or to argue with the ignorant, will not find the fragrance of Paradise."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Amr bin Waqid, who is da'if (weak) and has been accused of lying.
