Abu Khaldah narrates: I heard Maymun al-Kurdi while he was with Malik bin Dinar. Malik bin Dinar said to him: "Why is it that the venerable shaykh (that is, you) does not narrate hadith on the authority of his father, when your father lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" Maymun said: "My father would not narrate any hadith to us from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), out of fear that he might add something or leave something out. He said: 'I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me should prepare to reach his designated abode in Hell."'"
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good), if Allah wills.
