عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : خَطَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ النَّاسَ بِالْجَابِيَةِ وَقَالَ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عَنِ الْقُرْآنِ فَلْيَأْتِ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ ، وَمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عَنِ الْفَرَائِضِ فَلْيَأْتِ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ ، وَمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عَنِ الْفِقْهِ فَلْيَأْتِ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ ، وَمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عَنِ الْمَالِ فَلْيَأْتِنِي ; فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ جَعَلَنِي لَهُ وَالِيًا وَقَاسِمًا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ ، لَمْ أَرَ مَنْ ذَكَرَهُ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon at al-Jabiyah and said: "O people! Whoever wishes to ask about the Qur'an should go to Ubayy bin Ka'b; whoever wishes to ask about inheritance should go to Zayd bin Thabit; whoever wishes to ask about jurisprudence (fiqh) should go to Mu'adh bin Jabal; and whoever wishes to ask about wealth should come to me, for Allah Almighty has made me its custodian and distributor."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Sulayman bin Dawud bin al-Husayn; I have not seen anyone mention him.

وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ الْجُمَحِيِّ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَنِ السَّاعَةِ فَقَالَ : " مِنْ أَشْرَاطِهَا ثَلَاثٌ : إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْتِمَاسُ الْعِلْمِ عِنْدَ الْأَصَاغِرِ " . قَالَ مُوسَى : يُقَالُ : إِنَّ الْأَصَاغِرَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبِدَعِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَالْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Umayyah al-Jumahi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the Hour, and he said: "It has three signs, one of which is that knowledge will be sought from the juniors." The narrator Musa says: It is said that the juniors here means the people of innovation (bid'ah).

وَعَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ : لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ صَالِحِينَ مُتَمَاسِكِينَ مَا أَتَاهُمُ الْعِلْمُ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَمِنْ أَكَابِرِهِمْ ، فَإِذَا أَتَاهُمْ مِنْ أَصَاغِرِهِمْ هَلَكُوا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ مُوَثَّقُونَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: People will remain righteous and holding firm (to the teachings of the religion) as long as knowledge comes to them from the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and from their elders. And when knowledge comes to them from their juniors, they will be destroyed.
