Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of one who acquires knowledge in his youth is like an engraving on stone, and the example of one who learns knowledge in his old age is like one who writes on water."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Marwan bin Salim al-Shami, whom Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him), Imam Muslim and Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Any young person who grows up in knowledge and worship until he becomes grown, on the Day of Resurrection Allah Almighty will give him the reward of ninety-two (92) siddiqs (truthful ones)."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Yusuf bin Atiyyah, and he is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "Whatever prophet Allah Almighty sent, he was young (at the time of being sent), and whatever scholar was given knowledge, he was young (at that time) (that is, knowledge is what is acquired in youth)."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Qabus bin Abi Zabyan. According to one report Yahya bin Ma'in declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and according to another he declared him da'if (weak). Ibn Adi says: I hope there is no harm in him. Imam Ahmad declared this narrator da'if (weak).
