Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever does a good deed and is then pleased by it, or does an evil deed and it grieves him, is a believer."
Imam Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for al-Muttalib bin Abdullah; he is thiqah (trustworthy) but commits tadlis, and he did not hear from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), so this narration is munqati' (disconnected).

In al-Mu'jam al-Awsat this narration is reported from him as well. He narrates: A man asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What is sin?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever unsettles your heart, leave it!" The man asked: "What is faith?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is grieved by his evil deed and pleased by his good deed is a believer."
Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that its chain contains a narrator, Yahya bin Abi Kathir, who commits tadlis, even though he is among the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is grieved by his evil deed is a believer."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Ubaydah, who is utterly ruined in weakness.
