وَعَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْغُلُوَّ وَالزَّهْوَ ; فَإِنَّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَدْ غَلَا كَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ ، حَتَّى كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ الْقَصِيرَةُ تَتَّخِذُ خُفَّيْنِ مِنْ خَشَبٍ تَحْشُوهُمَا ، ثُمَّ تُدْخِلُ فِيهِمَا رِجْلَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ تَعْمِدُ إِلَى الْمَرْأَةِ الطَّوِيلَةِ فَتَمْشِي مَعَهَا ، فَإِذَا هِيَ قَدْ سَاوَتْ بِهَا [ أَوْ ] كَانَتْ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ : مَرْوَانُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ ، وَقَالَ الْأَزْدِيُّ : يَتَكَلَّمُونَ فِيهِ ، وَقَالَ الذَّهَبِيُّ : وَلَهُ نُسْخَةٌ فِيهَا مَنَاكِيرُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ : مَرْوَانُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ ، وَقَالَ الْأَزْدِيُّ : يَتَكَلَّمُونَ فِيهِ ، وَقَالَ الذَّهَبِيُّ : وَلَهُ نُسْخَةٌ فِيهَا مَنَاكِيرُ .
Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Beware of extremism and showing off! For many among the Children of Israel went to extremes, to the point that a short woman had a pair of wooden shoes made, then put her feet into them, then went to a tall woman and walked alongside her, and she looked equal to her (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are:) taller than her."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains the narrator Marwan bin Ja'far, whom Ibn Abi Hatim declared trustworthy. Al-Azdi said: "The scholars of hadith have criticised him," and Imam al-Dhahabi said: "A manuscript is transmitted from him which contains munkar (denounced) reports."
