Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at the door of a house in which there were some men from Quraysh. The narrator said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the two doorposts and said: "Is there anyone in the house except Qurashis?" It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! There is a nephew of ours (a sister's son) who is not a Qurashi." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The sister's son of a people is one of them." Then he said: "This matter (that is, government) will remain in Quraysh as long as they remain in this state: when mercy is sought from them, they show mercy; when they judge, they act with justice; and when they distribute, they act fairly. Whoever among them does not do so, upon him will be the curse of Allah Almighty, the angels and all mankind; no obligatory or voluntary worship of his will be accepted." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded only these words of this narration: "The sister's son of a people is one of them."
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it. The narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
