Bukayr bin Wahb al-Jazari said: Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: I am going to narrate to you a hadith that I do not narrate to everyone. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at the door of a house while we were inside that house, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The rulers will be from Quraysh. I have a right over you, and they too have a right over you like it, as long as, when mercy is sought from them, they show mercy; when they make a covenant, they fulfil it; and when they judge, they act with justice. Whoever among them does not do so, upon him will be the curse of Allah Almighty, the angels and all mankind."
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, more completely than the two of them. Al-Bazzar also recorded it, except that in his version the wording is: "Kingship will be in Quraysh." The narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
