Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 753

Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami said: The Companion who used to teach us the Qur'an told us that they used to learn ten verses from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and would not take up the next ten verses until they had come to know every aspect of the knowledge and action contained in the first ten. That Companion said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach (both) knowledge and action.
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains Ata bin al-Sa'ib, who became confused (ikhtilat) in the last part of his life.
