Abu Nadrah narrates: I said to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): Dictate to us (so that we may write)! He said: We will not dictate to you, nor will we make them (the hadiths, by having them written down) into a Qur'an. Rather, learn from us just as we learned from the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: Narrate hadith to one another, for sometimes one hadith brings another hadith to mind.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
