Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 717

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said one day — on that day the people had asked him many questions — Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Har bin Qays! He said this to al-Harith bin Qays. What do you think about these people? What do they intend by what they are asking about? Al-Harith bin Qays replied: So that they may learn it and then abandon it. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By the One besides whom there is no other god, you have spoken the truth.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
