Majma al-Zawaid 715 — Asking many questions

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: Give me some advice! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abandon qil wa qal (that is, needless argument), asking (needless) questions excessively, and wasting wealth."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, al-Sari bin Isma'il, and he is matruk (abandoned).
