Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) counselled me with seven things. He said: "Do not associate anything with Allah, even if you are cut to pieces, burned or crucified. Do not deliberately abandon the prayer, for whoever deliberately abandons it leaves the religion (millah). Do not commit disobedience, for it brings the displeasure of Allah Almighty. Do not drink wine, for it is the root of all evils. Do not flee from death, even if you are in its midst. Do not disobey your parents, even if they both order you to leave your entire world; then leave it. Do not put your stick aside from your family, and treat them with fairness from your own side."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Salamah bin Shurayh, about whom al-Dhahabi said: He is not known. The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
