Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man set free six of his slaves. His heirs, who were from the desert Arabs, came and told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what he had done. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did he really do that? Had we known beforehand, then, if Allah willed, we would not have offered his funeral prayer." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This report is recorded in the "Sahih" in abridged form.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it, but he reported these words: "A man from the Ansar set free six of his slaves, and he had no wealth other than these slaves. News of this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he became angry and said: 'I had resolved that I would not offer his funeral prayer.'" The narrators of all these reports are the narrators of the Sahih.
