Sayyiduna Hanzalah bin Hudhaym (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that his grandfather Sayyiduna Hanifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Hudhaym (may Allah be pleased with him): "Gather my sons for me, for I wish to make a will." He gathered them all, and then he said: "The first thing I bequeath is that this orphan who is under my care shall receive one hundred camels, the camels which we used to call 'al-Mutayyabah' in the Age of Ignorance." Sayyiduna Hudhaym (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O father! I have heard your sons saying: 'We will accept this in front of our father, but when he passes away we will go back on it.'" He said: "Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) shall be (witness) between me and you." Sayyiduna Hudhaym (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We are content." So Sayyiduna Hudhaym (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Hanifah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a boy at the time and was riding behind Sayyiduna Hudhaym (may Allah be pleased with him), set off. They greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Abu Hudhaym! What has brought you here?" He replied: "This one," and struck his hand on the thigh of Sayyiduna Hudhaym (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he said: "I fear that old age or death may overtake me suddenly, so I intend to make a will. I said: 'The first thing I bequeath is that this orphan who is under my care shall receive one hundred camels, which we used to call al-Mutayyabah in the Age of Ignorance.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry, until we could see the signs of anger on his face. He was sitting, and he went down onto his knees and said: "No! No! No! Charity is five; if not, then ten; if not, then fifteen; if not, then twenty; otherwise twenty-five, or thirty, or thirty-five; and if it is more, then forty." The narrator says: So they left it. The orphan had a stick with him and he was striking a rope with it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This boy's stick is big." Sayyiduna Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: My father drew near to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I have grown sons who have beards, but this one is the youngest and smallest of them, so please pray to Allah Almighty for him." He passed his hand over his head and said: "May Allah Almighty place blessing in you" (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words were:) "May you be blessed." The narrator Dhayyal says: I saw Sayyiduna Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him): when a person whose face was swollen, or an animal whose udder was swollen, was brought to him, he would put saliva on his hand and say: "In the name of Allah," then he would place it on the spot where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had placed his blessed hand, then he would wipe it over it, and the swelling would go away.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
