وَعَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ : انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَحُصَيْنُ بْنُ سَبْرَةَ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ ، فَلَمَّا جَلَسْنَا إِلَيْهِ قَالَ لَهُ حُصَيْنٌ : لَقَدْ لَقِيتَ يَا زَيْدُ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا . قَالَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدٌ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ ذَلِكَ قَالَ : بَعَثَ إِلَيَّ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقَالَ : مَا أَحَادِيثُ تُحَدِّثُ بِهَا وَتَرْوِيهَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَا نَجِدُهَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ ؟ تُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ لَهُ حَوْضًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ : [ قَدْ ] حَدَّثَنَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَوَعَدَنَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : كَذَبْتَ ، وَلَكِنَّكَ شَيْخٌ قَدْ خَرِفْتَ . قَالَ : إِنِّي قَدْ سَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَايَ ، وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلِيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ " ، وَمَا كَذَبْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Abu Hayyan al-Taymi has reported this statement of his paternal uncle: I, Husayn bin Sabrah and Umar bin Muslim went to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him). When we sat with him, Husayn said to him: "O Sayyiduna Zayd! You have attained a great deal of good." Yazid bin Hayyan narrates: In that gathering Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) told us: Ubaydullah bin Ziyad sent for me, so I went to him, and he said: "What are these hadiths that you narrate and report from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but which we do not find in the Book of Allah? You narrate that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has a Pool (Hawd) in Paradise." Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah told us about it and promised it to us." Abdullah bin Ziyad said: "You are lying; you are an old man who is talking nonsense." Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with these two ears of mine, and my heart preserved it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me, let him prepare to take his particular seat in Hell.'" (Then Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) "I have not attributed any lie to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
