Hisham bin Abi Ruqayyah narrates: I heard Maslamah bin Mukhallad while he was standing on the pulpit delivering a sermon to the people. He said: "O people! Do you not find in 'asb (Yemeni striped cloth) and linen what makes you free of need for silk? Here among you is a man who will narrate to you from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). O Sayyiduna Uqbah! Stand up." (So Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up) and said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me, let him prepare to take his particular seat in Hell.'" (Then Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) "And I bear witness that I also heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever wears silk in this world will be deprived of wearing it in the Hereafter.'"
Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this narration, and their narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
