Yahya bin Maymun al-Hadrami narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ghafiqi (may Allah be pleased with him) heard Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating various hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the pulpit. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This companion of yours is either a hafiz (one who has preserved them well), or one heading for ruin. In our last meeting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Hold fast to the Book of Allah. You will return to people who love to narrate hadith from me. So whoever narrates from me something that I did not say, let him prepare to take his seat in Hell; and whoever has memorized something, let him narrate it.'"
Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded this narration, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
