It is narrated about Sayyiduna Khalid bin Urfutah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said about al-Mukhtar: "This man is a great liar. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me, let him prepare to take his particular seat in Hell.'" Imam Ahmad and Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this narration. Imam al-Bazzar recorded these words of this narration: "Whoever narrates from me something that I did not say, let him prepare to take his particular seat in Hell."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir similar to the narration of Imam Ahmad. Its chain contains a narrator, Muslim, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Khalid bin Urfutah (may Allah be pleased with him); no one narrated from him except Khalid bin Salamah.
