Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 586

It is reported about Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said during a sermon: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us in a sermon in Masjid al-Khayf and said: "May Allah Almighty keep radiant the person who hears my words and takes them on, for sometimes a person who learns something is not a scholar, and sometimes a person who learns something conveys it to someone who has more understanding than himself (that is, more knowledge than himself). There are three things about which the heart of a believer does not harbour rancour: making one's deeds sincerely for Allah Almighty, sincere goodwill towards the Muslim rulers, and keeping to the community of the Muslims, for their supplication encompasses those who are not with them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Isa al-Khayyat, who is matruk al-hadith (abandoned).
