Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty keep radiant the person who hears my words and then adds nothing to them. Sometimes a person who directly learns something conveys it to someone who retains it better than himself. There are three things about which the heart of a believer does not harbour rancour: making one's deeds sincerely for Allah Almighty, sincere goodwill towards the rulers, and holding fast to the community of the Muslims, for their supplication encompasses those who are behind them (that is, those who are not with them)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, but in it (al-Awsat) he narrated the words "carrier of a word" instead of "carrier of knowledge". Its chain contains Amr bin Waqid, who has been accused of lying, and he is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected).
