Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17470

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man met a woman who had been a prostitute in the Era of Ignorance. The man began to flirt with her, until he stretched out his hand towards her. The woman said: Stop! For Allah Almighty has done away with polytheism. (Here the narrator Affan once reported these words:) The Era of Ignorance has gone, and Islam has come. The man turned away, his face struck a wall and he was injured. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are a servant for whom Allah Almighty has intended good. When Allah Almighty intends good for a servant, He hastens the punishment of his sin for him (that is, in this world), and when Allah Almighty intends evil for a servant, He holds back his sin against him until He repays him in full on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be like the mountain called 'Ayr."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, but al-Tabarani reported these words: "We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was taking the pledge of allegiance beneath the tree, and I was holding the branches of the tree up from over his head. Meanwhile a man came whose face was streaming with blood. He said: O Messenger of Allah, I am ruined. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What has ruined you? He said: I came out of my house and came across a woman; my gaze stayed fixed on her until my face struck a wall and I received the injury that you see." The narrator says: After this the narrator mentioned the narration as before.
The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, and so is one of the two chains of al-Tabarani.
