Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the pulpit: "Show mercy, and you will be shown mercy; forgive, and you will be forgiven. Woe to those who do not retain what they hear, and woe to the persistent ones who persist in what they have done while they know (that what they are doing is wrong)."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Hibban bin Yazid al-Shar'abi, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy). Al-Tabarani
recorded it in the same way.
