❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
Yes, there is zakāt on trade goods.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that zakāt be given on items prepared with the intention of sale.
As narrated in the ḥadīth:
«فَإِنَّ رَسُوْلَ اﷲِ ﷺ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نُخْرِجَ الصَّدَقَةَ مِنَ الَّذِیْ نُعِدُّ لِلْبَيْعِ»
(Abū Dāwūd, Kitāb az-Zakāh, Bāb al-ʿUrūḍ idhā Kānat li-t-Tijārah Hal Fīhā Zakāh)
Translation:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us to give zakāt from those items which we prepared for sale.”
Hādhā mā ʿindī, wallāhu aʿlam biṣ-ṣawāb.
