❖ Question
Is it permissible for the muʾadhdhin (caller to prayer) to leave the mosque after giving the Adhān?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
- It is not permissible for the muʾadhdhin to leave the mosque after giving the Adhān.
- Evidence:
In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, under Bāb al-Nahy ʿan al-Khurūj min al-Masjid idhā Udhhina al-Muʾadhdhin, it is narrated that when the muʾadhdhin gives the Adhān, one should not leave the mosque thereafter. - Exception:
If the muʾadhdhin has a need such as relieving himself, then it is permissible for him to step out of the mosque. - This ruling is not exclusive to the muʾadhdhin; it also applies to anyone in the mosque — no one should leave after the Adhān without a valid excuse.
✅ Conclusion:
The muʾadhdhin — and anyone else present in the mosque — should not leave after the Adhān unless there is a valid Sharʿī reason (such as a natural need).
