❖ Question:
A sacrificial animal developed a tumor on its neck. A few days have passed, and now we have come to know about it. At the time of purchase, the animal was completely healthy. Is this animal still valid for qurbānī?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade sacrificing animals that have an evident disease.
As stated in the ḥadīth:
«وَالْمَرِيْضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا»
“An animal whose disease is obvious (is not valid for sacrifice).”
(Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, al-Nasā’ī, Ibn Mājah)
Therefore, if the animal’s illness (such as a visible tumor) is apparent in its current condition, then its sacrifice is not valid, even if it was healthy at the time of purchase.
