❖ Question:
If a goat has reached 14 or 15 months of age but has not yet become musinnah (i.e., its milk teeth have not fallen and permanent teeth have not grown), is it sufficient for qurbānī based on age alone?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
For a sacrificial animal, being musinnah is a condition—meaning its permanent teeth must have emerged.
- Mere age completion is not enough; until the animal becomes musinnah, it is not valid for sacrifice.
Exception:
In case of hardship or unavailability of animals, it is permissible to sacrifice a jadhʿah sheep.
The most correct definition of jadhʿah sheep is:
- It is one year old or slightly more,
- It has not yet become musinnah (still has milk teeth).
Therefore, a goat that is 14 or 15 months old but not musinnah is not valid for sacrifice.
