Hadith 637

عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، سَمِعَ مَالِكَ بْنَ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ أَمْوَالَ بَنِي النَّضِيرِ كَانَتْ مِمَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِمَّا لَمْ يُوجِفْ عَلَيْهِ الْمُسْلِمُونَ بِخَيْلٍ وَلا رِكَابٍ ، فَكَانَتْ أَمْوَالُهُمْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَالِصًا ، فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُنْفِقُ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ مِنْهَا نَفَقَةَ سَنَةٍ ، وَمَا بَقِيَ جَعَلَهُ فِي الْخَيْلِ وَالْكُرَاعِ عِدَّةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, that the properties of Banu Nadir were obtained by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as fay’ (spoils of war without battle), for which the Muslims neither had to race horses nor fight. So their properties were exclusively for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, from which he would cover the annual expenses of his households, and whatever wealth remained, horses and weapons, etc., would be purchased for jihad.
