أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ سَعِيدٍ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ يَحْيَى ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا تُوُفِّيَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَشْجَعَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ ، وَأَنَّهُمْ ذَكَرُوهُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَزَعَمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَهُمْ : " صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ " ، فَتَغَيَّرَتْ وُجُوهُ النَّاسِ لِذَلِكَ ، فَزَعَمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ صَاحِبَكُمْ غَلَّ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " . فَفَتَّشْنَا مَتَاعَهُ فَوَجَدْنَا خَرَزًا مِنْ خَرَزِ يَهُودَ وَاللَّهِ مَا يُسَاوِي دِرْهَمَيْنِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, that a man from the tribe of Ashja‘ among the Companions passed away at Khaybar. The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, informed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: “You perform the funeral prayer for your companion (i.e., I will not come).” Upon hearing this reply, the color of the people’s faces changed. The narrator thinks that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Your companion committed treachery regarding the spoils of war.” We searched his belongings and found some beads from among the Jews’ beads. By Allah, their value was not even equal to two dirhams.
