أَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الدِّيلِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْغَيْثِ مَوْلَى ابْنِ مُطِيعٍ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ خَيْبَرَ فَلَمْ نَغْنَمْ ذَهَبًا وَلا فِضَّةً إِلا الأَمْوَالَ وَالثِّيَابَ وَالْمَتَاعَ ، قَالَ : فَوَجَّهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَ وَادِي الْقُرَى ، وَزَعَمَ أَنَّ رِفَاعَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ وَهَبَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبْدًا أَسْوَدَ يُقَالُ لَهُ : مِدْعَمٌ ، قَالَ : فَخَرَجْنَا حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِوَادِي الْقُرَى ، فَبَيْنَمَا مِدْعَمٌ يَحُطُّ رَحْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ سَهْمٌ عَائِرٌ فَأَصَابَهُ فَقَتَلَهُ ، فَقَالَ النَّاسُ : هَنِيئًا لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَلا وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، إِنَّ الشَّمْلَةَ الَّتِي أَخَذَهَا يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ مِنَ الْمَغَانِمِ لَمْ تُصِبْهَا الْمَقَاسِمُ لَتَشْتَعِلُ عَلَيْهِ نَارًا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year of Khaybar. We did not receive gold or silver among the spoils of war, but rather we obtained wealth (camels, goats), clothes, and goods. He says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards Wadi al-Qura. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) thinks that Sayyiduna Rifa’ah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) gifted a black slave to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whose name was Mid’am. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We set out until we reached Wadi al-Qura, and the slave was removing the saddle of the Messenger of Allah’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mount, when suddenly an arrow came from an unknown direction and struck the slave, killing him. The people said, “Congratulations to him for Paradise!” But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Never! By Him in Whose hand is my soul, the cloak which he stole from the spoils of Khaybar before its distribution is now burning upon him as a flame of fire.”
