Hadith 507

عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنَّ هِنْدًا أُمَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ رَجُلٌ شَحِيحٌ ، وَلَيْسَ لِي مِنْهُ إِلا مَا أَدْخَلَ عَلَيَّ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خُذِي مَا يَكْفِيكِ وَوَلَدَكِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ " .
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Hind bint 'Utbah, the mother of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with her), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) is a miserly man. He does not give me enough expenses that would suffice me and my children, and I take from his wealth without his permission. Is there any sin upon me for this?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Take from his wealth only what is customary, that which is sufficient for you and your children."
