Hadith 384

وَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْوَهَّابِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ ، عَنْ نُبَيْشَةَ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا كُنَّا نَعْتِرُ عَتِيرَةً فِي رَجَبَ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنَا ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ادْعُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي أَيِّ شَهْرٍ كَانَ وَبَرُّوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَأَطْعِمُوا " . قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ : سَمِعْتُ الْمُزَنِيَّ يَقُولُ : " وَبَرُّوا اللَّهَ " أَوْ " أَوْثِرُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " الشَّكُّ مِنَ الْمُزَنِيِّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nabeesha (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! We slaughter animals in the (first ten days of) Rajab; what is your ruling about this?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: (Why have you specified Rajab?) "Slaughter for the sake of Allah (the Exalted), whatever the month may be. Do good deeds for the sake of Allah (the Exalted), feed others."
