عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، وَعَبْدَةَ ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ : إِنَّ أَخَاكَ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ : مَنْ يَقُمِ الْحَوْلَ يُصِبْ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ ، فَقَالَ : يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَنَّهَا فِي رَمَضَانَ وَأَنَّهَا لَيْلَةُ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ وَلَكِنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ لا يَتَّكِلُوا ثُمَّ حَلَفَ أُبَيٌّ لا يَسْتَثْنِي أَنَّهَا لَيْلَةُ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ قُلْتُ : يَا أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ تَعْلَمُ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ : بِالآيَةِ الَّتِي أَخْبَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ تَطْلُعُ صَبِيحَةَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ لا شُعَاعَ لَهَا .
Zirr bin Hubaish (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I said to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), "Your brother Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says, 'Whoever stands (in prayer) throughout the year will find Laylat al-Qadr.'" So Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "May Allah have mercy on them. They know that Laylat al-Qadr is in Ramadan and it is the twenty-seventh night, but they wanted that people should not become content with just that." Then, without saying 'insha'Allah', he swore an oath and said, "Laylat al-Qadr is indeed the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan." I said, "O Abu Mundhir, how did you know this?" He said: "Based on the sign which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told us: that on the morning following it, the sun rises with no rays."
