Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that Hind, the mother of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with her), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Abu Sufyan is a stingy man; he does not give us full maintenance, but we take something without his knowing. Is there any sin in that?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take, in a fair manner, as much as suffices you."

Umar bin Abd al-Rahman bin Dilaf narrated from his father that a man of the tribe of Juhaynah used to buy riding camels at high prices, then travel fast and get ahead of the pilgrims. He went bankrupt. His case was brought to Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "To proceed: O people! Usayfi', the Usayfi' of Juhaynah, was content, at the cost of his religion and his trustworthiness, to have it said: 'He got ahead of the pilgrims.' Indeed, he took on debt heedlessly, so he has become overwhelmed by it. Whoever is owed a debt by him, let him come to us in the morning; we will divide his wealth among his creditors."
