Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): When my joints were dislocated at Khaybar, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon, saying: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dealt with the Jews (of Khaybar) as workers on their properties and said: 'We will let you remain as long as Allah lets you remain.' When Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) went out to his property there, he was attacked at night, so that his joints were dislocated. We have no enemy there other than them, and they are the ones we suspect. I have decided to expel them." When he had resolved upon that, one of the Banu Abi al-Huqayq came and said: "O Commander of the Faithful! Will you expel us, when Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) let us remain here and made us workers on the properties?" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do you think I have forgotten the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): 'How will you be when you are expelled from Khaybar, with your young she-camel carrying you night after night?'" Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) expelled them and gave them, in return for the value of their fruit, money, camels and goods such as saddles, ropes and the like.

Nafi' narrates from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) expelled the Jews and Christians from the land of the Hijaz. After the conquest of Khaybar, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had intended to expel the Jews, since after the conquest the land was to belong to Allah, His Messenger and the believers. The Jews asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to appoint them to work the land in return for half the fruit. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We will let you remain as long as we wish." So he let them remain; then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), during his rule, expelled them to Tayma and Ariha.

Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Thursday! And what a Thursday it was!" Then he wept and said: When the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) grew severe, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring me something so that I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray." They disputed over it, although disputing in the presence of a Prophet is not proper. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave me, for the state I am in is better than that to which you are calling me." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to do three things: "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and give gifts to the delegations as I used to give them," and I was made to forget the third.

Nafi' narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Jews of Banu al-Nadir and Qurayzah waged war against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) expelled Banu al-Nadir while letting Banu Qurayzah remain. The narrator says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) expelled the Jews of Madinah, namely Banu Qaynuqa', who were the people of Abdullah bin Salam, and he also expelled Banu Harithah. In the time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), no Jew, Christian or any other disbeliever stayed in Madinah for more than three days. I do not know whether this was done to them or not.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us in the mosque and said: "Go to the Jews." We went with him (peace and blessings be upon him) to Bayt al-Midras, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out to them and said: "O Jews! Accept Islam and you will be safe." They said: "O Abu al-Qasim! You have conveyed the message." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is what I want: accept Islam and you will be safe." They said again: "You have conveyed the message." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said the third time: "That is what I intend." They gave the same reply the third time as well. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The land belongs to Allah and His Messenger, and I wish to expel you from here. Sell your property, and know that the land belongs to Allah and His Messenger."
