Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the people of Banu Qurayzah accepted Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) as arbiter. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for him, and when he came, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stand up for your leader, or the best of you." Then Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) sat beside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sa'd! These people have agreed to your judgement." He said: My judgement is that their fighters be killed.

Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: On the day of al-Khandaq, Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) was wounded; the wound was inflicted by Hibban bin al-Ariqah of Quraysh. He shot an arrow into his vital arm vein, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had a tent pitched for Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque so that he could visit him from nearby. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the Battle of al-Khandaq, laid down his weapons and took a bath, Jibril (peace be upon him) came, shaking the dust from his head. He said: You have laid down your weapons? By Allah! We have not laid down our weapons; go out against them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Where?" Jibril (peace be upon him) pointed there, towards Banu Qurayzah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out against them, and they came down on the judgement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); then he (peace and blessings be upon him) referred the judgement to Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My judgement regarding them is that those who fought be killed, the children be taken captive, and their wealth be divided. My father said: I was told that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have judged regarding them in accordance with the judgement of Allah."

Sulayman bin Buraydah narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed someone as commander of an army, he would advise him in particular to fear Allah and to do good to the believers. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you besiege the people of a fortress, and they want you to bring them down on the judgement of Allah, do not do so. You do not know whether you will arrive at the judgement of Allah or not." (b) Waki' narrates from Sufyan: "Rather, bring them down on your own judgement, then decide regarding them as you wish."

Likewise (through another chain, from Waki', from Sufyan).
We have also narrated (something) on this from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) in the previous chapter.
