It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Shurayh al-Ka'bi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people of Khuza'ah! This man of Hudhayl whom you have killed, I am paying his blood money. If anyone kills after this statement of mine, the victim's family will have the choice between two matters: either they take the blood money or they kill."

Sa'id said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that the wife gets nothing from the blood money, until Sayyiduna al-Dahhak bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote to me that "I should give the wife of Ashyam al-Dibabi a share from her husband's blood money," so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) retracted his view.
Ahmad bin Salih (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In one narration of Sa'id there are also the words that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had appointed him as governor over the Bedouins.

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Blood money is inheritance among the heirs of the slain, and whatever remains is for the 'asabah (paternal male relatives)." And he said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled: "The blood money owed for a woman's offence is upon her 'asabah, whoever they are, who inherit from her only what remains after her heirs. And if she is killed, her blood money is among her heirs, and it is they who will kill her killer."

Jabir bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The blood money of a free man is inheritance among his heirs, and it is to be divided among them according to their prescribed shares. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled so. And the blood money of a free woman is also inheritance, to be divided among her heirs; and if a woman kills or wounds someone, her 'asabah will pay the blood money on her behalf, and this is the ruling of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It is narrated from Amr bin Harim (may Allah have mercy on him) that Jabir bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: Does a maternal half-brother, who is not from the father's side, inherit from the blood money? He said: Yes; Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) made him an heir, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that his blood money takes the place of his inheritance.
