Salm bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Sawadah bin al-Rabi' (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him (for something), and he ordered a small herd of camels to be given to me, and said: "When you reach your family, instruct your sons to feed their young milk-animals well, and tell them to keep their nails trimmed so that they do not wound the udders with their nails while milking."
In one narration these words are additional: "Tell your sons to leave milk for the animals' young, and not to let them grow weak from lack of food before they reach a year."

Sayyiduna Dirar bin al-Azwar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A milch she-camel was given as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to milk her. I milked her until I had emptied the udders, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped me and said: "Leave something for its young as well."
