أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ، ثنا أَبُو النَّضْرِ، ثنا الْمُرَجَّى بْنُ رَجَا الْيَشْكُرِيُّ، ثنا سَلْمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَوَادَةَ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَأَمَرَ لِي بِذَوْدٍ، وَقَالَ: " إِذَا رَجَعْتَ إِلَى بَيْتِكَ فَمُرْهُمْ فَلْيُحْسِنُوا غِذَاءَ رِبَاعِهِمْ، وَمُرْهُمْ فَلْيُقَلِّمُوا أَظْفَارَهُمْ، لَا يَعْبِطُوا بِهَا ضُرُوعَ مَوَاشِيهِمْ إِذَا حَلَبُوا ". وَرَوَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمْرَانَ، عَنْ سَلْمِ الْجَرْمِيِّ، وَزَادَ فِيهِ: وَقُلْ لَهُمْ: فَلْيَحْتَلِبُوا عَلَيْهَا سِخَالَهَا لَا تُدْرِكُهَا السَّنَةُ وَهِيَ عِجَافٌ ".
Salm bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Sawadah bin al-Rabi' (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him (for something), and he ordered a small herd of camels to be given to me, and said: "When you reach your family, instruct your sons to feed their young milk-animals well, and tell them to keep their nails trimmed so that they do not wound the udders with their nails while milking."
In one narration these words are additional: "Tell your sons to leave milk for the animals' young, and not to let them grow weak from lack of food before they reach a year."
