Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim; he does not wrong him, nor does he abandon him. Whoever helps his brother, Allah Almighty helps him. Whoever relieves a Muslim of a hardship, Allah Almighty will relieve him of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah Almighty will conceal his faults on the Day of Resurrection."

Ma'rur bin Suwayd (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a story, then recited this verse of the Qur'an: "Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth in exchange for Paradise" [Surah al-Tawbah: 111], and said: He made both parts of the bargain His. By Allah! Had Allah not supplied you with treasures from Himself, I would have taken from a man whatever wealth exceeded the needs of himself and his family and distributed it among the poor of the Muhajirun.

Hirad bin Tariq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came with Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) from the morning prayer. While he was still in the market, he heard the sound of a newborn baby crying. He stood over it and saw that its mother was beside it. He asked her: "What is your situation?" The woman said: "I came to this market for some need, and labour came upon me, and I gave birth to a boy." The narrator said: The woman was beside a house belonging to some people in the market. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Did the people of this house take notice of you?" And he said: "May Allah not ruin the people of this house. If I learn that they knew of you and then gave you no help, I would deal with them." Then he called for a drink of sawiq (barley-meal water) for her and said: "Drink this; it will remove the breathing trouble, cleanse the intestines and set the veins right." Then we entered the mosque and prayed with the people.
One narration has the words: "If I knew that they had taken notice of you but gave you no benefit, I would have set fire to them."

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Go, for he is free; his wala' (right of clientage) is yours, and his maintenance is on us."
