The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: We wished that Sayyiduna Uthman and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with them both) would trade with each other, so that we could see which of them was the greater merchant. Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) bought from Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) a horse that was in another place, for forty thousand dirhams or about that. He said: If the horse is found safe and sound after the deal, then the deal stands. Then, after going a little way, he came back. Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will give six thousand dirhams more, if my messenger finds it safe and sound. He said: Yes. Then the messenger of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) found it dead, and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was released (from the deal) by that second condition.

Ibn Abi Mulaykah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) bought land in Madinah from Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him), exchanging it for land of his in Kufah. When they had concluded the sale, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) became uneasy, and then said: "I have sold something I have not seen." Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The option of seeing belongs to me, because I bought something absent, whereas you have seen what you bought." They appointed an arbiter between themselves; Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) was their arbiter. Sayyiduna Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled against Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the sale was valid, and that the option of seeing belonged to Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), because he had bought something absent.
Something on this has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but it is not authentic.

Makhul (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates as a marfu' report that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever buys something without having seen it has the option when he sees it: if he wishes he may take it, and if he wishes he may leave it."
This is mursal, and Abu Bakr bin Abi Maryam is da'if (weak); Abu Bakr bin al-Harith and others told me this from Ali bin Umar Abu al-Hasan al-Daraqutni al-Hafiz (may Allah have mercy on him). It has also been narrated through another route from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and it is not authentic.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever buys something without having seen it has the option when he sees it."

Likewise (through another chain).
Abu al-Hasan al-Hafiz (al-Daraqutni) said: Umar bin Ibrahim, who is called al-Kurdi, fabricates hadith. This is batil (false) and not authentic; no one else narrated it, and it is only narrated from Ibn Sirin as his own statement.

Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) say: Whoever buys something without having seen it has the option when he sees it.
