Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah, he performed Tawaf. First of all he kissed the Black Stone, then he did three rounds at a brisk pace and four walking. Then, having completed the Tawaf, he prayed two rak'ahs by Maqam Ibrahim. When he had said the salam, he came to Safa and made seven rounds between Safa and Marwah. Then nothing of what had become forbidden to him (peace and blessings be upon him) became lawful until he (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed his Hajj and sacrificed on the Day of Sacrifice. Then he went back and performed Tawaf of the House, and then everything that had been forbidden to him (peace and blessings be upon him) became lawful. And the people who had brought sacrificial animals with them did the same.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: We performed Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We performed the Ifadah on the Day of Sacrifice, and Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) began menstruating. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) desired from her what a man desires from his wife, so I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! She is menstruating. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is she going to hold us back?" They said: She performed the Ifadah on the Day of Sacrifice. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take her out (with us)."

Sayyiduna Usamah bin Sharik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for Hajj. People came to him (peace and blessings be upon him); one would say: I performed the Sa'i before the Tawaf, or I have done something earlier or later. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would say to them: "There is no harm, there is no harm, except for a man who violated the honour of a Muslim man while he was a wrongdoer; it is he who is in harm, and he is ruined."
The Shaykh says: These words, 'I performed the Sa'i before the Tawaf', are gharib (unusual); Jarir is alone in narrating them from al-Shaybani. Even if they are preserved, the meaning would be as though he asked about a man who performed the Sa'i right after Tawaf al-Qudum, before Tawaf al-Ifadah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no harm." And Allah knows best.

The jurists of Madinah (may Allah have mercy on them) used to say: Whoever forgot to perform Tawaf al-Ifadah until he returned to his own land is in a state of ihram again from the time he remembers it, until he comes to the House and performs Tawaf. If he has relations with women, he must sacrifice a camel (badanah).
