Amr bin Maymun (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I was present with Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) at Jam' after the morning prayer, and he said: The polytheists would not depart until the sun had risen, and they used to say: 'Ashriq Thabir' (Shine, O Thabir!). the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) opposed them and departed before sunrise.

Ma'mar (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) said to me: "Come with us to the tent of Ja'far bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him), for it has reached me that he has ordered the people not to leave Jam' before the sun rises." Ma'mar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I went with Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) until we reached his tent, and there were some people of the Alawis with him, and he was talking with them. When he saw Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him), he stood up, came out of the tent, embraced Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him), then took him by the hand and led him to another tent. Ma'mar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He did not think it fitting to seat him with those people. Then he called for a platter of dates and began handing them to Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) with his own hand. Then he said: "Take a platter to those people, for if we send to them, they will leave us alone, and if we do not, they will speak ill of us." At this Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "What is this that has reached me about you?" He said: "What has reached you?" He said: "I have been told that you tell the people not to leave Jam' before the sun rises." He said: 'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah)! "That is against the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). My father narrated to me from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Jam' before the sun rose. But people tell lies against us and narrate from us what we have not said, and they think that we have knowledge which other people do not have. By Allah, some people have knowledge that we do not have; but we have a right and a kinship." And he kept describing their right and kinship until I saw tears flowing from the eyes of Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him).

Sayyiduna al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us at Arafah. He praised and extolled Allah, then said: "To proceed: the polytheists and idol-worshippers used to depart from here near sunset, when the sun was on the tops of the mountains like men's turbans on their heads, and our way is contrary to their way. And they used to depart from al-Mash'ar al-Haram when the sun rose on the tops of the mountains like men's turbans on their heads, and our way is contrary to their way."
Abdullah bin Idris narrated this hadith from Ibn Jurayj through Muhammad bin Qays bin Makhramah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon on the day of Arafah and said in it: "This is the day of the Greater Hajj." Then he mentioned what follows with the same meaning, as a mursal report.

O people, enter the morning! Then he set off, and I could see his thigh uncovered because of his urging his camel on with his stick.
