Sayyiduna al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us at Arafah. He praised and extolled Allah, then said: "To proceed: the polytheists and idol-worshippers used to depart from here near sunset, when the sun was on the tops of the mountains like men's turbans on their heads, and our way is contrary to their way. And they used to depart from al-Mash'ar al-Haram when the sun rose on the tops of the mountains like men's turbans on their heads, and our way is contrary to their way."
Abdullah bin Idris narrated this hadith from Ibn Jurayj through Muhammad bin Qays bin Makhramah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon on the day of Arafah and said in it: "This is the day of the Greater Hajj." Then he mentioned what follows with the same meaning, as a mursal report.
