Ubayd bin Jurayj said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): O Abu Abd al-Rahman, I have seen you do four things that I have not seen any of your companions do. He said: What are they, Ibn Jurayj? He said: I have seen that of the corners (of the Ka'bah) you touch only the two Yamani ones, that you wear sandals without hair, that you dye with yellow, and that when you are in Makkah, the people begin the talbiyah upon seeing the new moon, while you begin the talbiyah on the Day of Tarwiyah. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "As for the corners, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) touch only the two Yamani corners. As for the hairless sandals, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing sandals that had no hair on them, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would also perform ablution in them, so I too love to wear them. As for the yellow, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dyeing with it, so I too love to dye with it. As for the talbiyah, I did not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say the talbiyah until his (peace and blessings be upon him) she-camel rose with him (peace and blessings be upon him)."
