أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ، قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ يَوْمًا فَذَكَرَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ قُبِضَ فَكُفِّنَ فِي كَفَنٍ غَيْرِ طَائِلٍ، وَقُبِرَ لَيْلًا فَزَجَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُقْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ بِاللَّيْلِ حَتَّى يُصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يُضْطَرُّوا إِلَى ذَلِكَ، وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا كَفَّنَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ فَلْيُحْسِنْ كَفَنَهُ " رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and mentioned one of his Companions who had died and was not given a good shroud, and was buried at night. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked this and said: "Do not bury (anyone) at night until the funeral prayer has been offered over him, unless there is some necessity." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you shrouds his brother, let him shroud him well."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، أنبأ خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: فَقَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ امْرَأَةً سَوْدَاءَ كَانَتْ تَلْتَقِطُ الْخِرَقَ وَالْعِيدَانَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَقَالَ: " أَيْنَ فُلَانَةُ "، قَالُوا: مَاتَتْ، قَالَ: " أَفَلَا آذَنْتُمُونِي "، قَالُوا مَاتَتْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَدُفِنَتْ فَكَرِهْنَا أَنْ نُوقِظَكَ، فَذَهَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى قَبْرِهَا، فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا وَقَالَ: " إِذَا مَاتَ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَلَا تَدَعُوا أَنْ تُؤْذِنُونِي ".
It is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) missed a black woman who used to pick up bits of straw and the like from the mosque and clean it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is so-and-so?" They said: "She has died." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not tell me?" They said: "She died at night and was buried, and we did not think it appropriate to wake you (peace and blessings be upon him)." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to her grave and offered the funeral prayer, and said: "When any of the Muslims dies, be sure to inform me."
