Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) said that there were three times at which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid us from offering the funeral prayer and from burying: "When the sun is rising, until it has risen high; when it stands still at midday (in the middle of the sky), until it inclines to one side; and when the sun is close to setting, until it has completely set."

Muhammad bin Abi Harmalah (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Zaynab bint Abi Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) died while Tariq was the governor of Madinah. Her bier was brought after the Fajr prayer and placed in al-Baqi', and Tariq used to pray Fajr in the darkness (of early dawn). Ibn Abi Harmalah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying to her family: "Either pray over your funeral now, or leave it until the sun has risen high."

Ziyad (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Ali informed him that a funeral bier was placed in the graveyard of the people of Basrah when the sun had turned yellow, and the funeral prayer was not offered over it until the sun had set. Then Abu Barzah ordered the caller, who gave the call to prayer; then the iqamah was given, and Abu Barzah stepped forward and led them in the Maghrib prayer. Among the people was Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) was of the Ansar, of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then they offered the funeral prayer.
